My boyfriend and I recently broke up, and the weeks since then have been the hardest weeks of my entire life. There really is no way to adequately express the heartbreak that comes from losing the most important person in your life. Some days I think it would help if I were angry or if things had ended in some terrible fight, because then I would have something to hang on to besides this horrible emptiness and perpetual sadness that refuse to let up. But I’m not angry and I don’t hate this man. He didn’t cheat on me or commit some unforgivable act. Much to my devastation, things just didn’t work out between me and this amazing guy.
This past week, I’ve finally started going through the breakup playlists that litter Spotify and the Internet. I couldn’t find any that I really connected with. Classic breakup songs like Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” might be great for people who are angry or bitter, but they don’t suit situations like mine when people find themselves just sad, lonely and aching.
