Introducing…Makayla! What favorite things do you have in common with her?
Makayla- 10 Favorite Things
1.The Smell of Waffle Cones
As much as I love ice cream, my favorite part is walking into the store and smelling those fresh cones being made in the back!
2. Roses
One of my favorite places in the world is the Provo Temple, and I love walking down the sidewalk and smelling the beautiful perfume of the roses.
3. Gardens
On that note, I absolutely LOVE taking walks and taking pictures in gardens. I want to have a garden (with roses) in my backyard one day.
4. Movie Series
I am addicted to series, where I really have time to fall in love with the characters, and binge watch for days! It can be TV shows or movies. Some of my favorites include Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Anne of Green Gables, and Doctor Who. (If you are still depressed about the episode “The Angels Take Manhattan”, talk to me. I’m never getting over it.)
5. 50’s Diners
My favorite era is definitely the 50’s. Poodle-skirts, awesome music, and diners. Anyone who knows me, knows that I absolutely love cheeseburgers, and what better place to find them than an old-style diner?
6. The Stars at Dusk
Have you ever been somewhere far away from the city and seen what the stars look like without all the lights drowning them out? The blues and yellows all mix together and…It’s breathtaking. And it makes me feel close to heaven.
7. Running
On my own terms, running helps me to clear my head. I like running to slow music, especially hymns because it helps me to feel calm. I make a lot of really important decisions after a few long runs and some time spent meditating.
8. Argentina
For those who don’t know, I spent a year and a half living in Argentina. I did a lot of service project, taught English, and most importantly taught people about God and how much He loves them. During my time, I grew to love those people like my own family and adopted many of their words and cultural differences. So if you hear me say, “Hey che” or “Chao, chao!” just know that that is because a lot of my heart is still with the people of Chaco, Formosa, Corrientes, and Santa Fe. Some days, I just wake up and miss it.
9. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ
For a long time, I didn’t know if God existed. I doubted seriously in my mind and tried to do a lot of research to know if what I had been taught my whole life was true. It finally came down to a few experiences where I asked God if He was really there and waited for an answer. And He answered. I think everyone has to one day decide that for themselves, but I remember the day that I knew that it was true, I felt happier than I ever had before. God is my Father and created a plan for me. I know that they exist, and that they make it possible for me to improve and have strength to do what I could never do alone.
10. My Husband
I always imagined that I would find the perfect person and fall madly in love and live happily ever after. However, my love story was a lot more like a book than I ever imagine! Jesse has been one of my best friends for as long as I can remember. I had a secret crush on him forever! It wasn’t until much later that our friendship grew into something so strong, we knew we wanted it to last forever. When he proposed, the first words out of his mouth were, “Makayla, you are my best friend.” I couldn’t wait to marry him, because really, what we have—and that because of Heavenly Father’s plan it can last forever—is my absolute favorite thing.
